Stay Away From Big Name Brands
The majority of big name yogurt brands that you find at the grocery store are actually toxic to you, and the others aren’t great either. Why? Because they’re loaded with sugar, and the milk that they use most likely comes from cows that have been pumped full of antibiotics and growth hormones, and have been fed genetically modified grains. Seriously, you may as well eat a candy bar with a steroid and carcinogen chaser. Even so-called “natural yogurt” is nothing more than cleverly disguised, sweet poison.
“So what”, you say? What’s wrong with some sugar, if you’re getting the other health benefits of probiotics and calcium that yogurt provides? Or what if it’s made with a sugar substitute? Is that better? I mean, what’s a little artificial sweetener among friends? What’s the big deal about cows injected with antibiotics or hormones and how does it affect you?
Well, take a seat and I’ll explain-
Sugar And Calcium Do Not Play Well Together
Yes, it’s true, calcium is essential to good health. It is a major mineral, and keeps our skeletal structure strong, so that we don’t develop osteoporosis and end up with bones that look like Swiss Cheese. It lends a hand to Vitamin K so that our blood will clot when necessary, and helps regulate our blood pressure. By all accounts, calcium is a hero in our bodies. However, what you may not realize is that the calcium is all but lost when combined with sugar. Why? Because studies show that sugar causes your body to excrete calcium, so when you combine the 2, you’re basically wasting the calcium, as not much will be absorbed. However, a lot of nasty, disease promoting toxins will be absorbed into your body and cells when you consume yogurt, especially if it’s made with animal protein.
Superbugs, Cancer And 8 Year Olds With Large Breasts- What Do They Have In Common?
As for the antibiotics and growth hormones? WOW, where do I begin? Antibiotic use in farm animals has skyrocketed, and it has been shown to cause a build up of these antibiotics in our bodies. The result? The creation of “superbugs” that are resistant to treatment. This has led to deaths from minor medical issues, because we are no longer able to fight them off; we’ve built up an immunity to the antibiotics that doctors would normally use to treat these illnesses and infections. Also, the use of growth hormones in farm animals has been linked to early onset puberty as well as breast, colon, prostate, and lung cancer due to the increased levels of insulin-growth factor 1, which is found in the cows that have been injected with the growth hormones. This is common practice on factory farms, to increase milk production and accelerate growth in the cows, to ready them for slaughter.
The Real Deal On Sugar Free Alternatives
What about sugar free yogurt? Are these better for you? NO! These are laden with ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup, which aids in weight gain, by blocking receptors in your brain, that tell you that you’re full. In addition, almost all forms of corn syrup are now made from GMO corn, and there is strong scientific evidence that Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) cause tumor growth and organ damage. GMOs are also linked to a laundry list of other diseases, disorders and illnesses. And while you may find some brands that use artificial sweeteners, it’s important to remember that the majority of sugar substitutes are chemical ridden cancer promoters, which should be avoided at all costs.
Get Your Yogurt Fix
So what’s a yogurt lover to do and how are we supposed to keep our bones from deteriorating, and keep our gut flora balanced and healthy? First you need to accept that yogurt is the equivalent of a treat or dessert. It is NOT a health food. But if you really need a yogurt fix, I would suggest products that are made with non-dairy alternatives, such as almond, coconut, or soy milk. These non-dairy alternatives have become widely available in traditional grocery stores, and you can find a variety of these dairy-free yogurts at health food chains such as Mother’s Market, Sprouts, and Whole Foods Market. You should also look for yogurts sweetened with fruit, if possible.
To maintain healthy bones, add more leafy greens, beans, and whole oranges to your diet, which are all great sources of calcium and other healthy nutrients, without any risks or negative health effects. And to get your gut back on track, most people really need the added benefit of a good probiotic, which comes in the form of a pill or liquid, and can be found online or at the same health food chains mentioned above. Adding fermented foods to you diet is another very important step towards balancing your gut bacteria, which will have a profound effect on your overall health.
