Would You Teach Your Child To Run With Scissors?
Would we ever do such a thing as teaching our children to play on the freeway, or to intentionally touch a hot stove? Hell no! Nor would we teach them to run through the house with scissors, or advise them to drink a beverage that’s marked as poison… or would we?
Are Your Habits Worth Having?
Every day you teach your children, even when you’re not trying to, and one of the most important lessons that you teach them is how to take care of themselves and live a healthy life… or not. Just as children are more likely to smoke, if their parents smoke, they will pick up on your diet and exercise habits as well. They are watching and following your lead constantly, and it is a huge responsibility. So, are your habits worth having, or would you prefer your child to take a different path?
When you start to think about it in that way, and make it part of your consciousness each day, you’ll begin to realize how much you may need to change. If you won’t do it for yourself, then consider doing it for your children, to give them a better future free from pain, suffering and disease.
Your Child May Only LOOK Healthy And Thin
Would you like to see your child suffer? Would you ever wish pain, and loss of mobility or humiliation upon your child? You’re probably saying, “Of course not! Those are just insane questions to even ask!”. However, your child’s current eating habits may cause these things to occur or exist in the future, and by the time you realize it, it will be too late.
Changes inside the body don’t happen overnight, and it all starts with early childhood habits and philosophies that we teach (actually, it begins in vitro, but that’s a topic for another blog post). For example, fat cells are formed in the body at an early age, even while the child is still thin on the outside. This contributes to the weight your child may have trouble dropping in their 20s, 30s and beyond. And, even if weight is not an issue, the health of your child’s cells, gut flora, hormone balance, brain, colon, etc… are at risk. Even so-called “age related diseases” of the brain, such as alzheimers and dementia, begin as early as in your 20’s, and are directly related to diet and lifestyle choices that we make early on.
The Number One Factor In Determining Your State Of Health
While many people believe that good health is hereditary and that it is, for the most part, out of their control, research shows that diet is the most important factor in determining a person’s health. While there are genetic predispositions that vary from person to person, the study of epigenetics proves that you can absolutely change the outcome of your health and longevity with a healthy diet, and experts now believe that your genetics play only a 5 percent part in the condition of your health.
For some people, this is good news. For others, it takes away their excuses. However, facts are facts, and you and your children are not doomed to a life of heart disease, diabetes or cancer simply because it “runs in your family”.
We Pass On Our Choices
So it seems, that the only things that you truly pass onto your children is your choices, which should be thought of as a very positive thing. This means that you literally have the power to change your own health and your children’s destiny. You can be a contributing force to help them live long, pain free, and disease free lives. Your health, as well as the health of your children is really in your hands, so consider the answers to these questions and then take appropriate action:
- What foods do you eat and buy?
- Are these the same foods that your parents bought and served you?
- What do you drink each day?
- Are these the same things that your parents drank, and allowed you to drink when you were young?
- Are your parents disease free, pain free, and illness free, for the most part?
- Do your parents have to take medication due to medical problems?
- Would you like your children to live a happier, and healthier life than the one that you or your parents are living, or have lived?
